Three hundred US troops, supported by helicopters, detained three Somali men after a pre-dawn raid to uncover arms caches in the capital yesterday, Reuter reports from Mogadishu. Three companies of the UN quick reaction force used concussion bombs and tear-gas after surrounding shanties north of Mogadishu airport. A UN spokesman said: 'We were acting on intelligence that there were arms caches in the area.'
