FREETOWN (Reuter) - Twenty-six people have been executed by firing squad for plotting two coups against Sierra Leone's military government.
They included 17 sentenced on Tuesday for allegedly plotting a coup in November. Nine others were sentenced on Wednesday for reportedly trying to overthrow the President, Valentine Strasser, last Monday, state radio reported.
A further six alleged plotters were under threat of summary trial and execution yesterday, including a student suspected of co-writing the speech which would have been broadcast had Monday's attempt succeeded.
