LAGOS - Nigeria remained gripped by pro-democracy protests and strikes after talks between the military government and the main striking oil workers union ended inconclusively. Demonstrations to back the demand that military ruler General Sani Abacha surrender power to the detained politician Moshood Abiola continued in Ibadan for the fourth day, and in Lagos 200 protesters staged a peaceful march.
