UAE jails two for blasphemy
An appeals court in the United Arab Emirates has jailed two Indians for 10 years for blasphemy. They were involved in an amateur production of a play in which ants gnawed at the bodies of Jesus Christ and the Prophet Mohamed, Reuter reports from Dubai.
Local newspapers said the court in Sharjah increased from six to 10 years sentences imposed by a lower court on one actor and the producer of the one-act play Corpse- Eating Ants staged a year ago. It ordered the deportation of the two on completion of the sentences and upheld six-year jail terms imposed on two other men.
