SKOPJE - The President, Kiro Gligorov, and his ruling Alliance for Macedonia party took a big lead in presidential and parliamentary elections marked by low turn-out and irregularities, according to unofficial returns. Monitors from the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe found serious irregularities in the elections, the first since independence from Yugoslavia in 1992. A second round of voting will be held on 30 October.
