Scotland Yard has launched an internal investigation following a complaint that one of its police officers was improperly assisting security staff working for Mohamed Al Fayed, the owner of Harrods, writes Chris Blackhurst.
The investigation is targeting an officer allegedly involved in investigating former employees of Mr Fayed on behalf of his formidable security operation.
Mr Fayed's head of security is an ex-senior officer and other former officers have been on his payroll. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We can confirm that CIB are investigating an officer in central London."
