Not all houses are selling as quickly as expected, and builders still scratch their heads about what incentives will tempt buyers' jaded palates. Countryside Residential came up with what it must have believed was just the ticket.

Buyers of homes in Crawley, Sussex, and Horley, Surrey, are being offered a free 12-month rail pass into central London.

The way things are going it could be another year before that sort of perk becomes worthwhile. Perhaps they would get more response by offering a free bike?
