ICE HOCKEY

An international players' federation has been created to protect players' interests. The federation was formed after a meeting between representatives of the national players' federations of Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany and Great Britain at the World Championships in Stockholm

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (Stockholm) Pool A matches: Germany 5 Switzerland 3 (Switzerland finish last in group A and meet the sixth team in group B in a two way relegation play-off on 2 May and 4 May); Russia 5 Canada 4 (Russia win group). Pool B: Sweden 2 Czech Republic 1; United States 4 Finland 4 (United States win group).

NHL: Detroit 4 Dallas 2; Quebec 4 Tampa Bay 1; Calgary 2 Toronto 2; Buffalo 3 Montreal 3; Ottowa 4 New York Islanders 3; Winnipeg 5 Edmonton 1.
