Assaults alleged after derby ends in chaos
Football
In a chaotic and violent conclusion to yesterday's East Anglian derby, four Norwich players claimed to have been attacked by Ipswich supporters, while Bryan Gunn, the visiting goalkeeper, was accused of throwing a punch at a fan.
Police informed the referee, Jim Rushton, after the game of the accusation against Gunn and he will include it in his report to the Football Association. The fan who made the complaint went to the first aid room for treatment but later ran off.
The Stoke official was also visited afterwards by the Norwich manager, Gary Megson, who claimed that Robert Ullathorne, Jamie Cureton, Robert Fleck and Carl Bradshaw had all been assaulted by "fans" who came on to the field to celebrate Ipswich's late 2-1 victory.
"They all say they were belted by the morons who came on to the field," Megson said. "There were things going on out there you don't want to see on a football field."
