Australian rules: Clubs in call for lie detector test

To help decide whether players are dinkum or deceitful, Essendon and Collingwood have called for the use of lie detectors in disciplinary hearings when a case depends on one player's word against another's.

The AFL clubs supported the introduction of the polygraph after a hearing cleared the Essendon defender Michael Prior of racially abusing Collingwood's Robert Ahmat, an Aboriginal player.

The Essendon manager, Danny Corcoran, said he had considered giving Prior a polygraph test to prove his player's innocence while the Collingwood chief executive, John May, said his club would have been happy for Ahmat to take a lie detector test.
