Scott Welch, who suffered an overwhelming points defeat in his unsuccessful World Boxing Organisation heavyweight title challenge against Henry Akinwande in Nashville last weekend, is being lined up to fight the big-punching South African Francois Botha on the under-card of a title defence by Michael Moorer, the International Boxing Federation heavyweight champion, in the United States in March.

Drew Docherty, the British bantamweight champion, has opted to fight on the undercard of a promotion in Glasgow following the collapse of his European title meeting with Johnny Bredahl after the Dane failed a drugs test. The 31-year-old will fight Lyndon Kershaw, from Halifax, on 27 January at the St Andrew's Sporting Club as part of the under-card for the vacant British flyweight championship contest between Keith Knox, of Bonnyrigg, and Adey Lewis from Bury.

Johnny Armour, from Chatham, continues his career with a challenge for the World Boxing Council international bantamweight championship at York Hall, Bethnal Green, on 29 January. Armour, 28, will meet the Willy Perdomo, of the Domincan Republic, in his second bout since being released from prison.
