Boxing: Quinn 'satisfactory'

Tommy Quinn was still in hospital last night after being knocked out during a boxing match in Swadlincote on Saturday night.

Quinn was rushed to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary after he was felled in the ring by a left hook from Birmingham's Jimmy Vincent.

Quinn underwent brain scans after regaining consciousness, and his condition last night was described as satisfactory by a hospital spokeswoman. The 21-year-old light-middleweight from Tranent, near Edinburgh, is understood to have escaped any lasting damage.

Quinn had been treated by paramedics in the ring for 10 minutes, put on a drip and given oxygen before being transferred to the hospital.

Later in the show Quinn's 24-year-old brother Willie was stopped in four rounds by Neville Brown in a challenge for Brown's British middleweight title. Willie Quinn was advised before his own fight of his brother's injury but decided to box on.
