Bruno makes fourth world title attempt
BOXING
Frank Bruno's fourth attempt at the world heavyweight title will take place at Wembley Stadium on 22 July. Bruno will challenge the World Boxing Council champion, Oliver McCall, who was once employed by Bruno as a sparring partner.
The main support bout will feature the WBC super- middleweight champion, Nigel Benn, making his first appearance since his ill-fated victory over the American, Gerald McClellan, in February.
"I've known Oliver a long time," Bruno said. "I used him as a sparring partner before the [Joe] Bugner fight [in 1987] and handled him with relative ease. Outside the ring, he's a very, very nice guy, but when we get in the ring it'll be serious war, no messing around."
While Bruno has lost his three previous challenges for the world title - against Tim Witherspoon at Wembley in 1986, Mike Tyson in Las Vegas in 1989 and Lennox Lewis in Cardiff two years ago - McCall won on his first attempt, knocking out Lewis in the second round at Wembley last September.
