The British No 1, Clare Wood, delayed her opponent for just 65 minutes yesterday before bowing out in the first round of the DFS Classic at the Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham. Wood, who had a wild card entry into the event, staged a minor recovery in the second set but lost 6- 2, 6-4 to the No 11 seed, Laurence Courtois, of Belgium.
