An international jury on Saturday ruled Denmark's Soling class boat ineligible but cleared the team to take part in another boat.

The Danish Soling captain, Stig Westergaard, and his crew will use a spare Spanish boat, selected at random from a pool.

The International Yacht Racing Union's chief measurer, Michael Jackson ,said the English-built Danish boat had too few coats of laminate on the hull.

The jury considered taking action against the team but decided against disqualification. "The international jury is satisfied that neither team management nor the crew could have known about the defect," a statement said.

Westergaard and his crew of Jan Andersen and Jens Bojsen-Muller are among the favourites for the event.
