Racing: The Tatling to strike in Nunthorpe at fourth attempt
Dandy Man has introduced a breath of fresh air to a stagnant sprint division this season, but may have to prove his competence on much slower ground in the Vcbet Nunthorpe Stakes.
The odds allow his supporters little margin for error, whereas The Tatling (2.50) is an extraordinary price at 20-1 with the Tote considering that he has finished second in this race in each of the last three years - getting closer every time. Though now nine, he has been giving every indication that he retains all his ability, most recently when caught wide under a penalty at Goodwood. He earlier finished up breathing down Dandy Man's neck at Royal Ascot, when both were marooned on the wrong side.
Pride Of Nation (3.25) can provide Luca Cumani some consolation for the last-gasp defeat of Glistening yesterday in the Addleshaw Goddard Handicap. This progressive colt found conditions too firm at Royal Ascot, having previously looked likely to prove better than a handicapper.
With Sander Camillo apparently not quite right, the Jaguar Lowther Stakes lacks depth, with three of the seven runners still maidens. Indian Ink (2.15) still looked short of experience at Ascot last time and can reverse form with Scarlet Runner.
