After two weeks training in Florida with the Olympic team, Martin Harris stormed to victory back in British waters at the Grand Prix Super final in Sheffield on Saturday night.
Harris, 27 five days ago, won his 50m backstroke in 26.30sec to finish little more than half a second ahead of another member of the Olympic squad, Adam Ruckwood.
Harris will swim both the 100m and 200m backstroke in Atlanta with his best chance of a medal coming in the shorter distance. Last year his British record time of 55sec placed him second in the 100m world rankings.
Mark Foster, the former world short course 50m freestyle champion and record holder, had too much speed for his rivals in that event. He finished in 23.30sec, almost a second ahead of the joint runners-up, Steven Mellor and Jeremy Birds.
