Hendry undone by errors
Snooker
Rod Lawler last night pulled off a shock in the second round of the Sweater Shop International Open in Swindon when he beat Stephen Hendry 5-3.
"That's got to be the greatest result of my life," Lawler said. "I would like to have won with a bit of style but in the end I was grateful to fall over the line - my stomach went in the final frame."
It means all the top 10 in the world rankings are out of the competition and Hendry, still without a ranking title this year, said: "Full credit to Rod - he kept plugging away and deserved to win. But it's amazing one week you can play so well and the next you can hardly pot a ball."
Hendry was never ahead in the 2hr 47min contest. The turning point came at the end of the seventh as Lawler fluked the final pink attempting to play safe but he then suffered an attack of nerves. He edged towards the finish and, with Hendry making mistakes, he took an opportunity to make a match-winning 33 break.
