McGregor breaks records

Yvonne McGregor shattered her own British and championship records on her way to the fastest qualifying time in the women's 3,000 metres pursuit title in the national track championships at the Manchester Velodrome yesterday. The Yorkshire rider, who has also taken the world one-hour crown on this track, set a time of 3 min 35.625 sec as she launched her defence of the title. McGregor sliced five seconds off her British record set in last year's world championships in Colombia and took almost eight seconds off her national championship record set in the final last year. McGregor, a serious contender for this summer's Olympics, staged a repeat of that final as she caught Maxine Johnson (Oundle Velo) after seven of the 12 laps, although Johnson's time of 3 min 51.924 sec was also the second fastest ride of the round.
