GABRIELE TARQUINI, driving an Alfa Romeo, maintained his lead of the Auto Trader RAC British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone yesterday.
Tarquini, of Italy, won the first race of the afternoon but spent the first 12 laps trailing the Renault Laguna of Switzerland's Alain Menu, whose challenge faded with his tyres. Menu slipped to third in the shortened first leg, behind the Ford Mondeo of Paul Radisich.
Tarquini's chances of a double victory were ruined on the opening lap of the second race, after he was tapped into a spin while lying third behind the Fords of Radisich and Andy Rouse. Radisich won.
