Ormondroyd fells Forest

A last-minute goal by Ian Ormondroyd launched a second consecutive night of Yorkshire celebrations as Bradford emulated York in claiming a high- profile Coca-Cola Cup scalp at the City Ground last night.

The former Aston Villa striker, who arrived at Valley Parade as something of a lost soul in the summer, took advantage of woefully slack defending by the Premiership side to head home full-back Wayne Jacobs' cross to spark jubilant scenes among the 4,000 visiting supporters.

Until that moment the second-round tie had been heading for extra time, Forest with an advantage on away goals following Bradford's 3-2 first- leg success.

Paul Showler's 61st minute goal had equalised Stuart Pearce's 17th minute strike for Forest but an instant response culminated in Andrea Silenzi's first goal for the Premiership side, giving Forest a scoreline that would have taken them through had extra time failed to produce another goal.

But Forest, four-times winners of the League Cup competition, were floored as Ormondroyd, back with the club who sold him to Villa for pounds 650,000 in the first of his four career moves, became an instant hero.

"It's wonderful for Ian," the Bradford manager, Lennie Lawrence, said. "When he came to us he was bereft of confidence, having played only five times for Leicester last season. But taking other people's rejects and building them up again has always been my speciality."

Forest could have few complaints. Bradford always showed the more positive attitude, even after conceding a goal, and a sustained spell of pressure at the start of the second half brought them a deserved equaliser, Showler throwing himself forward to score from close-range after Eddie Youds had headed down Ormondroyd's cross.

Within a minute Forest were level. Silenzi, making his first start since his pounds 1.8m move from Torino, celebrated his appearance in place of the injured Bryan Roy by stooping to head home Steve Stone's cross.

However, Ormondroyd's goal, stunning though it was in its timing, came as no real surprise.
