Paula Radcliffe, the former world junior champion from Loughborough University, maintained her unbeaten record this season by winning the British students cross-country title in Luton, covering the 5,750 metres course in 18min 30sec.

Iwan Thomas clocked the fastest 400 metres by a Briton this season in Pretoria, South Africa yesterday. Thomas, of Newham and Essex Beagles, attained a new personal best of 45.22sec, and was only eight-hundredth of a second away from the Welsh record set last year by Jamie Baulch.
