Headworx Coca-Cola Festival
Newquay
Newquay is the home of British surfing and the waves off Fistral beach will provide the setting for the highlight of the 12-day Headworx Coca- Cola Festival this weekend - the professional men's competition and the open women's event. The men's tournament, the Headworx Pro Surf, is one of the largest events of the World Qualifying Series circuit and has attracted 103 of the world's leading surfers, looking for points to step up to the World Championship circuit. Britain fields its strongest team, including Carwyn Williams, the three-times European champion who is presently leading the professional circuit rankings in Europe and Grishka Roberts, the 1993 European champion who is also in sharp form. Surfing starts at 8am each day, depending on weather conditions, and the festival ends on Monday with the four-man tag team event.
When to watch: Today: Headworx Pro Surf and Women's Open heats. Tomorrow: Pro Surf heats; Women's final. Sunday: Pro Surf final; Expression session. Monday: Tag team event.
