Racing: Blame for Rouse

BRIAN ROUSE was found guilty of irresponsible riding after an accident at Brighton yesterday in which his fellow jockey Jason Tate was injured.

Tate, who had just resumed riding after breaking a collarbone in a five-horse pile-up at Redcar, was taken to Brighton General Hospital with injuries to his left shoulder.

His mount Red Valerian was brought down and Tate narrowly escaped serious injury from the hooves of other horses. The jockey was found to have aggravated last month's injuries but was not detained in hospital.

The stewards held an inquiry and suspended Rouse for six days, from 30 September, for irresponsible riding on The Little Ferret. Rouse was found guilty of causing interference to Dancing Lawyer who, in turn, interfered with Red Valerian.

At Redcar a month ago, 22- year-old Tate was brought down on Magenta Boy in a first-furlong pile-up. He broke a collar-bone and Lindsay Charnock was banned for irresponsible riding. On Saturday, Tate returned to win the Ayr Gold Cup.
