CHAMPION jockey Peter Scudamore had to work harder than expected on 8-15 favourite Capability Brown in the Aspiring Champions Novice Chase at Chepstow yesterday.

His mount was 10 lengths clear and apparently full of running when he slithered on landing three fences out, sending Scudamore over his head.

With the field strung out behind, Scudamore was able to jump back into the saddle without surrendering the lead. In spite of another blunder at the last, Capability Brown was 30 lengths clear at the line.

Pipe said: 'I watched in the course betting shop, and turned away feeling sick when the horse fell. Peter was fantastic. The last occasion he moved that fast was when he dropped a fiver.'
