PETONALLAJILL: first time out this year and running for the first time in a handicap, this three-year-old caught the eye when finishing fast to take second place close home at Salisbury, two lengths behind Blue Topaze. A 14-1 starting price indicated she had been expected to need the race, so her performance showed she should soon be losing her maiden tag. (R Hannon)
SIR JOEY: promoted from fourth to third place by the stewards at Bath, but this sprinter may well have won outright but for a sluggish start which left him trailing badly. His jockey then switched his mount to the wide outside of the field and the four-year-old made rapid late headway to be only two lengths behind disqualified 'winner' Call To The Bar. (P G Murphy)
