PASHTO: moved up smoothly to challenge the leaders on the turn into the straight at Uttoxeter on Saturday but was outpaced over the final two flights, eventually taking only third place behind Montagnard. The ground was too lively for him there and if testing conditions return before the end of the season this six-year-old would prove hard to beat in the right company. (N Henderson)
RUTLAND GATE: another whose yard will be hoping for softer going before the start of summer. Backed down to as short as 8-1 for the Festival bumper race at Cheltenham last week, this New Zealand-bred was going well alongside the leaders three flights from the finish before dropping back to be eighth of the 24 runners. A highly promising performance. (Mrs J Renfree-Barons)
