CABOCHON: a useful staying handicapper on the Flat, he made a promising reappearance over hurdles when second in a novice event at Taunton on Thursday. Should prove more effective when tried beyond two miles, and is now qualified to run in handicaps.

(R Frost)

MUSTHAVEASWIG: a winning point-to-pointer last season, this lightly raced six-year-old had shown ability in novice hurdles prior to his chasing debut at Warwick on Monday. A well-backed favourite, he ruined his chance with a bad mistake at the 16th and was pulled up. Clearly thought to be capable of better, he will recoup losses in the near future.

(D Nicholson)

SHELTON ABBEY: held every chance when swerving and unseating his amateur rider coming to the last hurdle at Sedgefield on Tuesday. Can gain compensation given a similar test of stamina.

(P Cheesbrough)

VERY VERY ORDINARY: still improving judged on his third at Cheltenham on Friday, when 13lb out of the handicap. He had looked certain to win turning for home and possibly failed to stay the extended three-mile trip in testing conditions. Sure to win soon off his current mark.
