The Lingfield stewards yesterday referred the matter of the running and riding of Keld, favourite for the Durtnell Classified Stakes, to the Jockey Club for further investigation.

The filly, trained by James Fanshawe and ridden by Ray Cochrane, drifted alarmingly out from 5-4 to 2-1 for the seven furlong event. Drawn two, Cochrane tracked the filly over to the far rail to eventually finish fifth, beaten seven lengths by the winner The Prince. The local stewards interviewed Cochrane and N Fielden, representing Fanshawe. Cochrane informed them that he had been instructed to ride the filly as he thought best. He added that he considered the ground to be faster on the far side.
