Racing: Simpson's sprinter eager for repeat

YOU need a keen sort to win over five furlong at Sandown. On the way to the race-track Olifantsfontein once clambered out of his horsebox and over a partition until he was virtually sitting alongside the driver. Now that's keen, writes Chris Corrigan.

Olifantsfontein (3.05) returns to the Surrey course in an attempt to take the same prize he won a year ago, making all the running. He is on a 6lb higher handicap mark this time but an unexpected victory on his seasonal debut at Newbury last week points to Rod Simpson's runner having improved.

Only eight days now to the 2,000 Guineas but two colts who could still make the line-up go on trial at Sandown. Although Bin Ajwaad (2.35) and Serious have both suffered recent training setbacks, they should be too classy for today's opposition. If the former impresses this afternoon, his trainer, Ben Hanbury, will run him in the Guineas at Newmarket or the French version a week later.

A strong Group Two field contests the next race, with ZAAHI (nap 3.40) likely to prove he is well up to this level.
