Racing: Wyer and Nigel's Lad unstoppable
LORCAN WYER, currently operating without an agent to book his rides, is doing well enough without one and recorded a 63-1 double at Carlisle yesterday through Nigel's Lad and Stop The Gossip.
"David Pollington [his former agent] had a busy summer looking after Kieren Fallon, so he's taking a bit of a break," Wyer explained. "If there is anyone out there looking for a good up-and-coming jockey, then they only need to give me a ring," the veteran said.
The Pat Haslam-trained Nigel's Lad is a terrific multi-purpose horse and was opening his account over fences in the novices' chase, having won races on turf and on the all-weather on the Flat as well as over hurdles.
The Middleham-based Haslam said: "That was his 74th start and his 21st win. Just when the old boy thought he was going to retire we have found something else for him to do. This will be his new career, although we will be quite selective with him. He wants further than two miles and better ground."
Wyer deputised for Brian Storey - who will be out of action for three months with a broken femur - on Stop The Gossip in the novices' hurdle.
