Niall O'Toole, of the Commercial Club, Dublin, won the 42nd Head of the River Race for scullers on the Thames on Saturday. The Irish rower, starting the race agianst the clock in 124th place, beat Peter Haining, the world champion, in a time of 21min 16.78sec to win the event held over 41/4 miles from Mortlake to Putney. Guin Batten, of Thames RC, was the first woman home, finishing 116th of the 455 entrants.
