Point of attack: competitors negotiate the Needles yesterday during the annual round of the Isle of Wight race. Gerhard Clausen's Fritzzz-Fratzz was the first multi-hull home, in 1 hr 23 min; the first mono-hull was Tony Todd's IMS 50-footer, Eagle, in just over six hours, writes Stuart Alexander. Bob Fisher's 45-footer Barracuda collided with the 50-year-old wreck of the Greek freighter Varvassi, the impact driving the top of one of his twin rudders through the hull. Nine of the 14 crew were taken off.
