Tommaso Chieffi, tactician on Italy's America's Cup challenger in 1992, squeezed into the lead of the Ancasta Mumm 36 Regatta in the Solent yesterday, writes Stuart Alexander. With light winds and a strongly flooding tide dictating tactics, some big names came to grief. Marc Pajot, France's America's Cup skipper next year, slipped from first to third. His compatriot, Pierre Mas, was twice in the lead but twice went aground and retired.
