Grant Dalton, in NZ Endeavour, was averaging over 14 knots yesterday as he moved within 1,000 miles of the finish of the first leg of the Whitbread Round the World Race, writes Stuart Alexander. He is on target to shatter the record of 25 days, 20 hr and 46 min set for the leg by Peter Blake in Steinlager 2 in the last race.
