Tom Bell, 50, from Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear, suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after completing a 5-1 victory over Eden Butterworth in the second qualifying round of the Thailand Classic in Blackpool last night. Bell, the world No 359, had also suffered a heart attack six weeks ago.

The Llanelli-born Gary Owen, runner-up to John Spencer in the 1969 World Championship, has died in Brisbane at the age of 65.
