MARTINE Le Moignan's ambition to end her long career this year with the rank of world No 1 may take an important step forward here in her home town over the next five days, writes Richard Eaton from St Peter Port.
The left-handed former world champion is seeded second in the Guernsey Open behind the world No 1 from Australia, Michelle Martin.
However, a bigger threat could come from another Australian, Liz Irving, who beat both Martin and Le Moignan to win the Leekes Classic in Cardiff last month and is in Le Moignan's half of the draw.
Yesterday's draw for next month's Hi-Tec British Open has also put Irving in Le Moignan's half. England's world No 5, Peter Marshall, has a likely British Open quarter-final with Chris Dittmar, the world No 2.
