Squash: Marshall forced to surrender title

Peter Marshall, the British champion, extended the world champion, Jansher Khan, to a long match for the fourth time this season when he kept the Pakistani on court for 92 minutes before losing his title in the final of the Portuguese Open at Barringtons Club, Vale do Lobo yesterday, writes James Leigh. The 22-year-old from Leicestershire was beaten 16-17, 15-12, 15-8, 15-7 and tired noticeably in the middle of the match after being forced to do more of the retrieving. However Marshall, the world No 4, did enough to maintain belief that he is one of two Britons who might one day take over Jansher's mantle. Marshall had beaten the other great British hope, Peter Nicol, in a 94-minute semi-final.
