Jansher Khan won his sixth successive British Open title on Sunday but only after the longest match of his career. Peter Nicol, the third seed, kept the top-seeded Pakistani on court for two hours six minutes before eventually succumbing 17-15 9-15 15-12 8-15 15-8.

The Scot was perhaps unlucky with his share of the 32 penalty strokes, 83 lets and 16 no-lets but he was eventually worn down by Jansher.

"I have had tougher finals against the Australians in the past," Jansher said. "But Peter was playing better than ever before and the refereeing disturbed me. I have never had so many calls against me."

The referee, Brian Gurnett, appeared keen to control Jansher's increasing habit of blocking slightly and swinging widely.
