Roger Federer breezed into the third round of the US Open with a straight-sets win over Germany's Bjorn Phau on Thursday night.
Top seed Federer needed exactly 90 minutes to beat Phau 6-2 6-3 6-2 at Flushing Meadows, finishing the match in style with an ace.
Phau battled to the end and produced the shot of the night in the final game with a reflex forehand winner from a Federer smash, but the gulf in class was evident throughout.
Federer will play Spain's Fernando Verdasco in the third round and said: "He is a great player and an amazing shot-maker.
"He has had his fair share of big wins in the past so I am not looking any further than that match."
