Lord Wyatt, the Tote chairman, yesterday defended the decision to switch the Jackpot from Goodwood to yesterday evening's meeting at Epsom as "a perfectly rational, sensible commercial decision".

Lord Wyatt, interviewed by Julian Wilson on BBC1, said Epsom "was the place where we think it is least likely to be won", and a big carry-over created.
