1980: BORG V McENROE

With four successive titles safely tucked away, Bjorn Borg was attempting to claim a fifth crown when he faced a young American by the name of John McEnroe. Borg was clear favourite, but Mac had other ideas. He took the first set 6-1 while Borg, showing no emotion, went on to claim the next two 7-5 6-3. Then came the memorable fourth-set tie-break. Six-all, seven- all, eight-all... 16-all. Finally, McEnroe levelled the match, taking the tie-break 18-16. The fifth set followed the same pattern as the fourth, but with no tie-break in the final set, the first player to go two games clear would win the title. That was Borg, who claimed the set 8-6.
