Forza Motorsport 4 was given pride of place at the Xbox 360's Gamescom space, as Turn 10 Studios revealed Hockenheim both at the expo and in a new trailer.
Like Gamescom itself, Hockenheim is located near Germany's western borders.
The Forza team arrived laden with cameras and specialist GPS equipment in order to capture the historic track in fine detail.
Photographs and geometric data were used to replicate everything from skid marks up to the Hockenheimring's monumental Mercedes grandstand.
The team then turned to pro race drivers - in this instance LeMans wheelman Gunnar Jeanette - for expert feedback on their version of the circuit.
The trailer finishes by showing a minute's worth of footage focusing on the completed track in Forza 4.
Forza Motorsport 4 is available on Xbox 360 from October 11, while Need for Speed: The Run offers an altogether looser interpretation of sports racing from November 15.
