iZealots launch campaign for Steve Jobs monument bigger than the Statue of Liberty

The seven foot tall statue of Steve Jobs which currently stands in a Budapest park is clearly insufficient for Apple’s army of iZealots. A funding drive has been launched to build a massive icon of the computer pioneer which would dwarf the Statue of Liberty.

Describing themselves as “bearers of his legacy”, the San Francisco-based entrepreneurs have launched a drive to raise $50,000 through crowdsourcing site Indiegogo, to build a life-size model of their hero.

The model would be handed over to “world class sculptors” who will create a majestic monument, worthy of its subject, to be erected in San Francisco’s Bay Area, Jobs’ birth-place.

“If the campaign raises enough capital - more than what we could conservatively hope to raise - we'll aim for Statue of Liberty and Colossus of Rhodes proportions,” they say.

Donors of $999 will get their name immortalised on the statue’s plaque. The sponsors declare: “We are the bearers of his (Jobs) legacy. This statue will act as a reminder for the preservation of a memory worth remembering.”

The campaign is believed to be the brainchild of Alex Kennedy, a start-up entrepreneur who interned at a San Francisco-based web commerce business.
