LG is adding a mid-range Android smartphone to its popular Optimus series. The handset, dubbed the LG Optimus Sol (aka LG-E730), runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and offers many of the features found on LG's other Optimus handsets - but at a more affordable price.
"The Optimus Sol stands out from its competitors as the most affordable 1 GHz Android smartphone with an AMOLED display," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "By introducing a no-nonsense phone that boasts one of the best displays on the market, we think we have a real winner for consumers looking for a subtle but visually stunning phone."
The Optimus Sol boasts a bright 3.8" Ultra AMOLED display which provides better clarity outdoors and "a reduction in image quality degradation" compared to standard AMOLED displays said LG.
The device measures up at just 9.8mm slim and has an "enhanced idle-based power management system" that claims to boost the phone's battery life by up to 30 percent.
The mid-range handset also packs in a 5MP camera, DLNA connectivity and WiFi direct.
According to German technology website BestBoyz, the LG Optimus Sol will be priced at €299 which should put it in competition with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, the newly announced Huawei Vision, and the Samsung Conquer.
It is expected to arrive in Europe in the beginning of mid-September, followed by releases in Central and South America.
