O2 and Vodafone to share network infrastructure

Rival phone companies 02 and Vodafone have announced a deal to share their existing networks in Ireland and roll out future infrastructure jointly.

The move is part of an agreement between Vodafone and O2's parent company, Telefonica.

The deal covers Spain, Germany, Britain and Ireland and could save both companies hundreds of millions of euros over the next 10 years.

The companies say they are also studying further cost savings in other areas.
