Developers of Android, Blackberry, iPhone, Java, Symbian and Window Mobile applications are crossing their fingers, hoping to claim the honor of taking home a prestigious "Gettie Award."

GetJar's annual global Gettie Awards aims to honor innovative and creative mobile application developers, across all major mobile phone platforms.

On July 6 GetJar announced the names of 21 mobile application finalists across six categories. The finalists were chosen from more than 7,000 nominations.

"GetJar is thrilled to honor some of the world's best mobile applications developers for their outstanding work," said Patrick Mork, CMO of GetJar.

"2010 is really the year of the mobile developer and the industry owes a lot to the men and women who are creating the outstanding content that's helping drive our industry. The diversity, creativity and innovation across all the major development platforms really made it difficult for us to select these 21 finalists from the thousands of nominations we received."

GetJar is the world's second largest app store (second only to Apple's App Store). GetJar's application policy is slightly different from most mobile application marketplaces in that it hosts applications from across all major app platforms (Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, iOS and Symbian).

The Gettie Awards Ceremony will take place on July 12 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California, USA. The awards will be held in conjunction with VentureBeat's annual MobileBeat conference.

The 21 finalists are:
Best Android application: DriveSafe.ly, Lookout, Trip Journal
Best Blackberry application: Kayak Flight/Hotel Search, Waze, Cnectd
Best iPhone application: Tap Tap Revenge 3, Mint.com Personal Finance, Finger Physics
Best Java application: Snaptu, WaveSecure Backup, Trippo Voice Translator
Best Symbian application: NetQin Mobile Anti-virus, Nimbuzz, Point & Find
Best Windows Mobile application: Opera Mini, SportyPal, Glympse
Best Overall App (Gettie Award): Shazam on Android, Layar, eBuddy
