T-Mobile U-turns on roaming quota

T-Mobile has backed away from plans to slash existing customers' quotas for accessing the internet on their mobiles after news of its plans prompted an outcry.

The mobile operator now says the changes, which will halve the average amount of data its customers can access to just 500MB a month, will only apply to new and upgrading customers. The changes take effect in February.

The consumer group Which? welcomed the volte face: "We're delighted that T-Mobile has seen sense. It would have faced a real battle – both from us and its customers – as we believe T-Mobile would have been in breach of its terms and conditions had it enforced its changes on existing customers in accordance with its original plans," Which? said.
