Thousands of Apple devotees lined high streets the world over yesterday, to be among the first to lay hands on the new iPhone 4S.

Queues formed in Sydney, Tokyo, Munich, Paris, New York and London, where 778 people waited outside Apple's flagship store in Regent's Street. The phone, unveiled the day before Apple's former chief executive Steve Jobs died, has an improved, eight-megapixel camera and a well-reviewed voice recognition system called "Siri". Analysts predict four million sales this weekend alone.
