Luxurious 2,000-year-old Roman home unearthed by archaeologists

Italian archaeologists have unearthed a stunning 2,000-year-old Roman home near the Colosseum in Rome (12 December).

The one-of-a-kind dwelling features a mosaic featuring shells, marble, and precious glass.

It dates back to the latter half of the 2nd century BC and has been called an “authentic treasure,” by Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano.

The residence’s walls were originally discovered in 2018, and since then have only excavated a few of the rooms. The dig will continue well into 2024.

Officials have already expressed a commitment to make this historical gem accessible to the public.
